What Christmas Shouldn’t Be

Good EARLY morning readers. Was was up, so I thought I would post a blog. Christmas is three days away. Can you believe it?

I am re-posting a blog from last year for today’s post. I hope you don’t mind. I think it is still significant, so I wanted to hit on it again.

This was originally posted in a blog entry called Commercializing Christmas. I hope you enjoy. I would like to know your thoughts if you would like to give them.

————————————–

More and more each year, I see the world, specifically the United States, forgetting the true meaning of Christmas. I don’t know when the commercializing of Christmas really began, but as an adult I am able to open my eyes to it more than a small child.

Christmas shopping for some of us is a year round activity. We focus on what we are going to get one another throughout the whole year. Some people’s Christmas shopping begins the day after Thanksgiving on Black Friday. Commercializing Christmas has gotten so bad, that it even takes over the holiday of Thanksgiving all together. I first hand have seen people camping out at large retailers during their Thanksgiving holiday just to get the latest gadget for Christmas.

Also, have you ever noticed how people’s attitude changes during the Christmas season? People or more in a hurry, and seem to be more rude this time of year. People seem to want to give more to others in need. Most of the time I believe it is out of guilt, instead of out of wanting to actually help.

Oh, and another thing. People and businesses are more inclined to say Happy Holidays, instead of Merry Christmas in hopes that they don’t get sued. Yes I understand that it may be the ” politically correct ” thing to say, but I believe this contributes to the loss of the real meaning of Christmas.

All this post is really meant to do is to open your eyes up to the true meaning of Christmas. It is to celebrate the life of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. It is also a time to spend time with family and create memories that will last for eternity.

So during this Christmas, remember what you are celebrating.

” Without the birth of Christ, there would be no Christmas. Without Christmas, there wouldn’t be a Christmas break, and winter would be really boring.— Shannon Fouts, wife of Pastor Rodney Fouts.

Until next time readers, God Bless!

One Year.. A Reflection of Time

Good evening readers! I hope everyone is doing well tonight. Does everyone realize what day it is today?

Today is the one year anniversary of this blog. That’s right. I made it, and it has flown by!

Tonight I wanted to reflect on the last year. I hope I don’t bore you.

Just a few statistics for you:

1) In the last year, I have posted 114 blog entries, tagged 955 words, and created 68 categories.

2) This blog has had a total of 129 comments, and has blocked 1317 spam comments.

3) I have 9 active subscribers that get an email each time I post.

4) My Facebook fan page has 90 fans.

5) My Twitter account has 249 followers, and I am listed 103 times.

And… You know what??

I give all the glory to God! I started this blog to use it as my quiet time. I wanted to document what I was learning from God. Then it became a ministry to reach out to others with, while expressing my opinion on different topics, books, movies, etc.

I want to personally thank all of you that read my blog each time I post. I really means a lot. I want to thank my wife for letting me write.

I want to leave you with the motivation behind this blog. It can be found on the ” About This Blog” page as well.

I am a Christian living in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma,USA. This blog is a log of my adventures with God starting 12/13/09. The title of this blog is based off of the scripture Romans 8:15 :

This resurrection life you received from God is not a timid, grave-tending life. It’s adventurously expectant, greeting God with a childlike “What’s next, Papa?”–The Message.

So with that said.. I look forward to the next year of blogging. I hope that you take the journey with me.

Until next time readers, God Bless!

Jesus Flashes Mall In Oklahoma City!

Good evening readers. Probably a lot of you are wondering about the title of this post.

Well even though I wasn’t there, I wanted to share this with you. The spirit of God arrived at Quail Springs Mall last Saturday.

A flash mob of choral singers entered the food court, and started singing Handel’s Messiah. The news about the mob must have spread, because it looked like a ton of people showed up with cameras.

Check out the video I found.

Can you say awesome? If that didn’t make you get into the Christmas spirit, I don’t know what will.

Good job guys!

Until next time readers, God Bless!
