Life..or..Something Like It

Good evening everyone. Wow! I know it has been a while. I say that every time I write. I really do apologize that I haven’t been writing frequently like I used to. That is going to change though. Recently, a reader contacted me about a series of blog posts I did, and actually said he would pray for me about my job situation I have talked about before. He inspired me to start writing again.

Life has been very hard this last year. I lost my grandfather a year ago this coming Wednesday. I have been through 2 job changes, and my wife one. Finances were crazy. Life was really depressing. I was depressed, and to this moment, I still have times of depression. Life made me feel numb.

Looking back at the situation, I honestly wouldn’t have done it differently. I have had a great support team that includes my wife, and my church family. We, through the grace of God, have made it through this hard time. He has taken care of us financially, and emotionally.

So, I guess the point of this post is to say, whatever you are dealing with, ask God to take it from you. It will be hard, but know that you will get through it!

Psalm 23:4 NIV

Even though I walk
through the darkest valley,
I will fear no evil,
for you are with me;
your rod and your staff,
they comfort me

Good afternoon everyone. I hope everyone is doing well. It has been a little while since I last wrote. I want to apologize about that.

Life has been really crazy for me these last couple of weeks. I went to the ER with asthma issues. Along with that, my  remaining grandparent passed away April 4th.

A lot has been going through my head lately, mostly related to my grandpa’s passing.

A little back story of my grandpa. He and my grandma were married I believe, 51 years, before she passed away in 1998. What an amazing marriage they had. He was a very outspoken person, but also kept to himself. There are things I really wished I would have talked to him about before is Alzheimer’s got so bad, you couldn’t carry on a conversation with him. I knew my grandpa grew up Catholic, but he was non practicing when I knew him. He made wise decisions about money, which with those decisions, he got to enjoy life after retirement. He was 87 when he passed. He lived a long and wholesome life.

I guess the questions I would ask him, would be the following if we could sit down and chat.

How did you keep your marriage alive and happy all those years?

What are your beliefs about God and Christianity?

I am sure there would be more, but those are the main ones…

Today at church, Pastor Rodney mentioned  questions we have for God, and how those questions really can’t be answered until we meet our maker. Mostly they are questions that begin with the word… Why? I guess the only answer we can have to questions we have for God, should be answered by trusting Him. I know that is hard, and even I am dealing with that right now.

Why is life prolonged at the time of death, when the inevitable is going to happen?

Why do not so great things happen at the worst timing?

If you are the praying type, please pray for my family during these emotional times.

Until next time readers, God Bless..

The Measure of a Man

Today I wanted to discuss what it means to be a man in this world. The obvious answer has to deal with anatomy, but that isn’t what I am talking about.

What makes a man, a man? Is he supposed to be measured by his financial success, social life, spiritual life, athletic ability; what?

In my opinion a man is in today’s society is measured mostly on his financial success. Money is definitely one of the biggest things out there that we are judged by. I have heard a lot of people say that you aren’t successful unless you are rich. I have dealt with this issue in my head a lot in my past, and have come to realize that this isn’t necessarily true. There are several ways that we can be successful , and not be rich.

Another way I think that a man is measured in society is by his appearance. Now ladies I know this is something that you deal with as well, so I am not trying to exclude you from the issue. I am just saying that society judges our appearance as well. If a man is overweight, he is considered lazy. If he doesn’t dress well, he is considered a slob. I could go on and on.

I want to also mention that man is measured on his intelligence as well. Even though it isn’t the most popular thing to be considered, being a geek, dork, dweeb, nerd, or whatever actually has its’ perks. Intelligence kind of falls into that success category. A college education is huge! It is even getting to where an associates degree is being compared to a high school diploma. The higher the education you have, the more successful you will be.

The last thing I wanted to touch on today was a man’s spiritual life. In today’s society, that really isn’t measured that much. Why not? In my opinion, a man’s spiritual life develops and maintains his character as a person. I am not saying that we should be judging of others that don’t have a spiritual life, or even a weak one; what I am saying is that this part of a man should be at least considered.

What are your thoughts? How is someone measured to you? What characteristics of a person are most important to you?

Taxes.. Oh How You Are Hated

Good morning readers! Today is tax day if you are in the United States. Have you got those taxes in? If not, you have till midnight to post-mark them.

Each year, the dreaded taxes come around, and each year the whining comes out as well.  Here in the USA, tax evasion costs our country millions upon millions of dollars because people choose not to pay their taxes. People loathe the accountant and tax collector. This isn’t any different then what occurred back in Jesus’s time.

But as some of you know, Jesus loved the tax collector. He made it a point to hang out with them. He even made one his disciple.

Even though a certain person is disliked in society, doesn’t mean that they should be treated a different way.

So, on this tax day, remember the commandment of the Lord our God:

“Love your neighbor as yourself

Trusting Him

As the evening comes to an end, I wanted to come on here and share something that happened yesterday that has never happened to me before. I got a sign from God. Not that I have ever really doubted the existence of God before, but this just made my faith in Him jump.

I don’t want to sound like I am boasting about what happened, because I am not. I just want to share how God is moving in my wife and I’s life.

In my first post on this blog, I mentioned to you that my wife and I had never tithed before and had decided to for the first time last weekend. Me being unemployed our finances are pretty tight. Even in that circumstance, we decided to trust God with our finances.

While checking the mail yesterday, I only found one thing. The only piece of mail that was in there was an envelope with a printed label of my wife and I’s name and address. I opened it up thinking that was a Christmas letter or something, and found a single sheet of paper that said, ” May this bless you during this Season”. I thought to myself, ” How odd.” As I went to walk away, I saw a $100 bill lying on my shoe. This was the same amount that my wife and I had tithed a few days before hand. There wasn’t a name or anything on the note, nor a return address.

All I have to say is, God is truly amazing.

Until next time readers, God Bless!
