Life..or..Something Like It

Good evening everyone. Wow! I know it has been a while. I say that every time I write. I really do apologize that I haven’t been writing frequently like I used to. That is going to change though. Recently, a reader contacted me about a series of blog posts I did, and actually said he would pray for me about my job situation I have talked about before. He inspired me to start writing again.

Life has been very hard this last year. I lost my grandfather a year ago this coming Wednesday. I have been through 2 job changes, and my wife one. Finances were crazy. Life was really depressing. I was depressed, and to this moment, I still have times of depression. Life made me feel numb.

Looking back at the situation, I honestly wouldn’t have done it differently. I have had a great support team that includes my wife, and my church family. We, through the grace of God, have made it through this hard time. He has taken care of us financially, and emotionally.

So, I guess the point of this post is to say, whatever you are dealing with, ask God to take it from you. It will be hard, but know that you will get through it!

Psalm 23:4 NIV

Even though I walk
through the darkest valley,
I will fear no evil,
for you are with me;
your rod and your staff,
they comfort me

The Measure of a Man

Today I wanted to discuss what it means to be a man in this world. The obvious answer has to deal with anatomy, but that isn’t what I am talking about.

What makes a man, a man? Is he supposed to be measured by his financial success, social life, spiritual life, athletic ability; what?

In my opinion a man is in today’s society is measured mostly on his financial success. Money is definitely one of the biggest things out there that we are judged by. I have heard a lot of people say that you aren’t successful unless you are rich. I have dealt with this issue in my head a lot in my past, and have come to realize that this isn’t necessarily true. There are several ways that we can be successful , and not be rich.

Another way I think that a man is measured in society is by his appearance. Now ladies I know this is something that you deal with as well, so I am not trying to exclude you from the issue. I am just saying that society judges our appearance as well. If a man is overweight, he is considered lazy. If he doesn’t dress well, he is considered a slob. I could go on and on.

I want to also mention that man is measured on his intelligence as well. Even though it isn’t the most popular thing to be considered, being a geek, dork, dweeb, nerd, or whatever actually has its’ perks. Intelligence kind of falls into that success category. A college education is huge! It is even getting to where an associates degree is being compared to a high school diploma. The higher the education you have, the more successful you will be.

The last thing I wanted to touch on today was a man’s spiritual life. In today’s society, that really isn’t measured that much. Why not? In my opinion, a man’s spiritual life develops and maintains his character as a person. I am not saying that we should be judging of others that don’t have a spiritual life, or even a weak one; what I am saying is that this part of a man should be at least considered.

What are your thoughts? How is someone measured to you? What characteristics of a person are most important to you?

Taxes.. Oh How You Are Hated

Good morning readers! Today is tax day if you are in the United States. Have you got those taxes in? If not, you have till midnight to post-mark them.

Each year, the dreaded taxes come around, and each year the whining comes out as well.  Here in the USA, tax evasion costs our country millions upon millions of dollars because people choose not to pay their taxes. People loathe the accountant and tax collector. This isn’t any different then what occurred back in Jesus’s time.

But as some of you know, Jesus loved the tax collector. He made it a point to hang out with them. He even made one his disciple.

Even though a certain person is disliked in society, doesn’t mean that they should be treated a different way.

So, on this tax day, remember the commandment of the Lord our God:

“Love your neighbor as yourself
