Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Magazine Challenge

Good morning readers! Today we are going to be featuring a blog post from Brian Cromer. Brian is a friend of mine and also the Student Pastor atNorthChurch.tv. His Blog is BrianCromer.com.

(This blog post was originally posted on February 18,2009 )

I have subscribed to Sports Illustrated for years. As a subscriber to Sports Illustrated, the annual Swimsuit Edition (first published in 1964) gets sent to my house every February.

Here’s the cool part…

I have not seen one picture or one article from the Swimsuit Edition in years. Every year my incredible wife gets that particular issue, rolls her eyes at the super models who are not wearing their swimsuits, and immediately throws the issue in the garbage.

My 2011 issue came on Wednesday. It went in the trash on Wednesday and I never knew it came to the house.

I love that she does this for me. The raw, honest truth is that I probably do not have the strength to do it myself. Granted, I might throw it away but not without first taking a peek. (I care here you thinking “but you’re a minister!” Yeah, you are right, I am an honest and real minister.) I cherish the fact that my wife cares about my purity enough to help me succeed. She gets it. She makes me a better person. She makes me a better follower of Jesus.

Some people might think “who cares?” or “what’s the big deal?”

Here the truth…

I know I am not missing anything. My eyes have better things to look at. I have better thoughts to think about. I got a hottie that I am madly in love with and who loves me back. Who needs the Swimsuit Edition? I know I don’t.

Here’s the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Challenge…

Follow my wife’s lead. If you get the Swimsuit Edition, throw it away. If your husband/son/brother/friend gets the Swimsuit Edition, take the initiative and throw it away for him (like me, he probably doesn’t have the strength to do it himself).

You have heard that it was said, ‘Do not commit adultery.’ But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart. If your right eye causes you to sin, gouge it out and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to be thrown into hell.” – Jesus in Matthew 5:27-29 (NIV)

Hello again readers! I am writing this post a head of time in response to my post from yesterday. Good morning by the way!

I know that many of you that read my blog are friends of mine, but there are many of you that I have never met.

For the last year, I have been writing this blog, and have kinda hid behind the wall of not putting my “real” self out there. I have share with you my thoughts and opinions, but I have never given you a face of the person writing these blogs.

So here I am, and below is a little bit about myself.

My name is Tom McDaniel. I am currently am 29 years old and live in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, USA. I have been married to my wife Nicole for about a year and half. We currently don’t have any children.

Fellowship of Christian Athletes

Good morning readers! I hope everyone is doing well this morning.

Today I wanted to talk about sports. I am a huge sports fan. Although I don’t enjoy every kind of sport out there, I am die-hard when it comes to baseball and college football. College football season is getting ready to start, and the baseball season is sadly winding down.

This morning I wanted to talk about the athletes that actually play the sports.

When you see athletes point towards the heavens after they hit a home run, score a touchdown, or whatever, what does that make you think? Do you assume they are just showing off and acting like a Christian, or do you think they are actually praising God?

I know I don’t know that person’s heart or story, but half the time I think they are just showing off. I like that they are trying to show praise to God. However, more people should be giving Him the praise.

If you are a Christian athlete, do you show Him the praise for what you do on the field? If not, why not?

I am just curious on what people think.

Athlete or not, we should be giving God the praise for everything, good or bad.

Until next time readers, God Bless!

College Football and Jesus

Hello readers and sports fans! It has been a little over a month since my last post, and I apologize about that.

Well everyone, the college football season is almost here. Sept. 2nd is just around the corner! ARE YOU READY??

Here in Oklahoma, college football is a huge thing. Who you root for can be a factor in so many things in life you wouldn’t believe. I have heard that it can even cost you your job.

As you can see in the picture, ” Get Intense” in the slogan alongside the team mascot of the team I root for, the Oklahoma State Cowboys.

I was thinking, shouldn’t we “Get Intense” for Jesus? Why can’t we be fired up for Him like we get fired up for any sporting event?

The Bible mentions something about being luke warm for Christ:

Rev. 3:15-16 (The Message)

“I know you inside and out, and find little to my liking. You’re not cold, you’re not hot—far better to be either cold or hot!16 You’re stale. You’re stagnant. You make me want to vomit.

Let’s get on fire for Christ!

I leave you with this question today:

What are you doing to get on fire for Christ?

Until next time readers, God Bless!

Talent vs. Skill

Good morning readers! Today is a beautiful day here in Oklahoma City.

Today I wanted to talk about skills. What skills do you have? Do you play and instrument? Are you a good speaker? Are you good at sports?

I recently joined NorthChurch.tv‘s softball team. I used to play baseball back when I was younger and thought I would give softball a try. Let me tell you, the majority of the skills I had are there, but softball is way different than baseball. I am having to learn some different skills and it is kinda difficult.

For those who don’t know the difference between a talent and a skill, maybe this will help.

Talent is something that you are naturally good at, and a skill is something you have to work at to be good.

I guess my thought for today is I know that God gives certain talents, but does he give you the ability to learn certain skills over others?

So what do you think?

Until next time readers, God Bless!
